Dr. Frank Umbach

Frank Umbach photographDr. Frank Umbach is a German energy security expert. He is the Associate Director of the European Centre for Energy and Resource Security (EUCERS) based at King‘s College London. He is also a Senior Associate at the Centre for European Security Strategies (CESS) GmbH in Munich where he Heads the Programme “International Energy Security”. Dr. Umbach has extensively published on unconventional gas, including his co-authoring the study “Strategic Perspectives of Unconventional Gas in Europe: A Game Changer with Implications for the EU’s Common Energy Security Policies”, EUCERS-Strategy Papers, (Vol. 1, No. 1, May 2011), which received worldwide media attention. Most recently, in August-September 2012, he has published a six-part series of articles on the perspectives of unconventional gas in Europe and Asia. Frank is also often invited to high-profile scientific, political and industrial conferences on unconventional gas and other international energy issues.

Alongside academic research, Dr. Frank Umbach brings a wealth of policy experience to Shale Gas Europe having worked on projects with the German Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence, the European Commission and European Parliament, US-State Department, US Energy Department, the House of Lords (British Parliament), the Polish Foreign Ministry and NATO.
